Mac lower price on one of their MacBook Air models

The very acclaimed computer MacBook Air is becoming cheaper since Mac has decided to lower the price with 500 bucks. There are two different versions of MacBook Air, one that has got a weaker CPU (Intel Core 2 Duo 1,6 GHz), regular hard drive of 80 GB and one model with a stronger processor (Intel Core 2 Duo 1,8 GHz), solid-state drive of 64 GB. The last computer mentioned is affected by the lowered price. Apple has cut the price by 16% which imply 500 dollars. I'm not personally interested in buying a MacBook Air because I find the price is entirely too high. Apple Store set the price to $1,799 for the cheapest one and $2,598 for the more powerful MacBook Air computer. If you are going to buy a MacBook Air, then I suggest that you wait a couple of days to get the computer $500 cheaper.

Microsoft is loosing its market shares to Mac

Microsoft's is loosing some of its market shares. Microsoft "only" has about 90% of the market. Above all, it's Mac that slowly cut down on Microsoft's monopoly. The company Net Applications indicates that 90.89% of all computers use Windows OS. Mac OS X is upcoming star with 7.94% of Internet connected PCs. Linux only have 0.80% of the market. Personally I use Ubuntu Linux, and it will do fine, even if it is some difficulties before you get the operating system to act as you want. Ubuntu requires some juggle to get movies, music, etc working. Otherwise it's a rather good alternative for former Windows users. Read more at Net Applications homepage.

iPhone/iPod Touch - a program that creates a smart playlist for iPod and iPhone

iPhone/iPod Touch is a programme that improves the shuffle function of iPhone or iPod. The program adapts the shuffle mechanism after your listening habits. You need to upload the playlist to the site Instinctiv which then analyzes the playlist. The site then sends back a shuffled list depending on artists, music genre, etc. Best of all, the programme continues to analyze your listening habits. The program register the songs that are played and decide how the playlist will be arranged. This is possible because the programme takes into account which songs you tend to skip, and when you choose to do so. Exactly how the analysis is done is a secret, the reason is - otherwise, you may steal the whole concept. ;). Does it sound interesting, then go to the site and read more about the service. Instinctiv also have published a funny commercial video. The website can be found here.

Important security update for Firefox 2

Although Mozilla recently released Firefox 3, there are still a lot of people using Firefox 2. Probably because of failure during the installation of FF3 or simply as a result of unknowledge about the release of Firefox 3. Firefox had no less than 125 million users worldwide by the end of 2007. Today the figure is even higher. Therefore there may be some people still using Firefox 2.

It is very important to have an updated browser if you wish to use the Internet safely and avoid getting infected by malware, etc. It is also to meet this need amoung their users that Mozilla has just brought out a new package of security updates to Firefox 2. The new edition of Firefox 2 is called Firefox 2.0.0.15, and contains, better security in terms of certificates, which reduces the risk of being subjected to phishing. Before the update, one could fool Firefox 2 to accept an unreliable certificate if the name of the certificate recalled a trusted certificate name. A user who were not on guard could thus happen to give the false certificate full rights. Below, you'll find a list of problems that Mozilla has resolved in Firefox 2, version 2.0.0.15. In addition, Mozilla also has improved memory management, which is welcome in the case of Firefox 2. If you are using Firefox 2, click on the alternetive "Help" and select "Search for updates", or install the latest version of Firefox 2 via Mozilla's website, se link below. Or why not switch to Firefox 3? If you want to read more about the new features in Firefox 2.0.0.15, you will find Mozilla's Release Notes on the browser here. For those of you who still insist on using Firefox 2 instead of Firefox 3, there is a direct link to Firefox 2.0.0.x. You can find the latest version of Firefox 2 here.

SOS Children: Wikipedia Selection for schools

SOS Children has released a special edition of Wikipedia. The Selection is about the size of a 15 volume encyclopaedia with 24,000 pictures, 14 million words and articles on 4,625 topics. The articles are specifically selected to follow the UK National Curriculum. The articles are also guaranteed child-friendly, so that the encyclopaedia does not contain any information or material that might be inappropriate for children and young people. The encyclopaedia is called Wikipedia for schools and is available online. If you want the encyclopaedia on a laptop without a permanent Internet connection then you are able to download the encyclopaedia from the British website of SOS Children. There are two different files available at the site, one file of 792 MB, and a larger file of 2.5 GB. What distinguishes the large file from the the larger one is that the large file contains full-scale images while the images of the images of the smaller file is compressed to thumbnails. The advantage of Wikipedia for schools version of Wikipedia is that it has been reviewed by experts and therefore errors are corrected. In addition, the Wikipedia for schools are not open for the public to edit, which prevents people from clutter the articles with advertising or their own political opinions. I read some of the articles and I think it was written in a fairly moderate level. In case you want to get a little general knowledge in different areas there would be a good reason to read Wikipedia for schools. For example, I read about Zimbabwe, which gave me some understanding of what is happening there these days, about Mugabe's background, vote-rigging etc. I think that Wikipedia for schools is well worth a visit. You can find Wikipedia for schools on the Internet here. Would you rather download the encyclopedia, you will find links to the files here.

Overclock your Mac with ZDNet Clock

There are a multitude of overclocking tools for Windows. I even got one when a purchased a new motherboard to my computer. The program was included in the installation disc. For Macintosh, it has been a little more difficult to get overclocking tools. Until now. German ZDNet has developed a program called ZDNet Clock to overclock Macintosh computers. According to ZDNet, it is possible to overclock a Mac Pro on clock speed 2.8 GHz to around 3.2 GHz. If you have a Mac Pro or an Apple Xserve server, feel free to try the ZDNet program. Just remember that you do it at your own risk. Don't blame me if something is going wrong during the process. Link to the download page of ZDNet Clock can be found here.

It should, however, be clear that it takes her little time to burn a Blu-ray disc of 50GB at the speed of 4X. It the only disadvantage (in addition to the price then) that it takes a that long time to burn that much information in such a low speed. To learn more about MCE Technologies' new burner read here.

Adobe Flash + Google + Yahoo = true!

Adobe Flash gives designers a good chance to design web pages that are both stylish and functional. Adobe Flash has also created a great deal of concern among many designers because websites built with the help of Flash were not indexed by search engines like Google and Yahoo. In this sense, the visitors found it difficult to find web pages, which of course is a clear disadvantage, Adobe announced in a press release that Adobe opens up its Adobe Flash Technology for Google and Yahoo. Google has already begun to index web sites using the new technology. Information previously been hidden for Google's crawlers is now possible for the search engine to index.Google further on will deliver search results with interesting hits even on web pages that contain Adobe Flash. Adobe Flash is installed on millions of computers and is expected to be installed on more than 98% of all internet connected computers. Read more about Adobe's involvement with Google and Yahoo in Adobe's press release which can be found here.

Windows XP is dead, long live Windows XP!

Microsoft stopped the sales of Windows XP, 30 June 2008, but that does not mean it's impossible to get hold of a copy of the operating system. Personally, I am certainly not fond of Microsoft's new OS: Windows Vista. Ok, there are some new features and the interface looks quite attractive, transparent window frames and all. Even if security has been allocated an update, I am most disturbed at all warning messages popping up. Anyway, I like Windows XP. The operating sustem works on everything from lazy old computers to new modern game machines. Do you buy a printer or a USB device of any kind, you can count on XP. Even legacy applications, or older versions of new applications will work without problem if you are using Windows XP. In Vista, it is sometimes difficult to plug in a printer or install a program, even if compatibility getting better and better with time, of course. There are a variety of reasons to stick with Microsoft's old system Windows XP Home Edition or Windows XP Professional Edition.

For those who really want to, there are a number of opportunities to put your hands on a brand fresh copy of XP also in the future. The first reason is that some computer stores, mostly smaller companies that build their computers themselves, will continue to be allowed to sell computers with Windows XP as an pre-installed operating system, at least until the end of January 2009. Until the end of January 2009 Dell and Hawlett-Packard will also offer a so-called downgrading of Windows Vista Business and Windows Vista Ultimate on some computer models. That means in simple terms, that you can buy a Dell or HP computer, and then downgrade the computer's OS for a good old-fashioned Windows XP. Another reason that you will manage to get a copy of Windows XP is that Microsoft's ceased sales does not mean that the operating system is not available in computer stores' stock. The XP will therefore continue to be sold until the computer stores are out of stock. Some firms even have bought extra copies of XP to be able to offer customers the rare operating system. Some enterprising people will no doubt also try to sell Windows XP orginal CDs through sites like eBay and Amazon. One have to be aware, otherwise it's likely to be fooled by fraudsters who steal your money or send pirated software instead of genuine ones. Just pirated versions of XP perhaps will be the most common form of distribution of Windows XP as time goes on. The operating system will surely be avalible through various illegal Peer2Peer filesharing networks. One should of course be clear that these are illegal copies, and that Microsoft does not give any guarantees that the operating system is secure and free from any malware. This does not mean that an illegal version must be bad. On the contrary, there are examples of pirated versions of XP, which will do just as good as the original, if not better. One example is TinyXP, which contains a large package of updated drivers and Service Pack 3 (SP3), which normally takes almost as long to download and install as the operating system itself. In TinyXP, the SP3 comes with the installation, which is not the case with a year old orginal copy of XP. Read more about TinyXP at APC Mag. A lot of computer customers will run into XP when they buy a new mini computer. Microsoft's new Windows Vista operating system is simply too heavy and costly to operate on a less powerful computer and Microsoft doesn't want to risk losing market share so, Microsoft will continue to sell XP as an pre-installed OS on minicomputers like ASUS Eee PC, Intel Classmates PC and so on. For those who are thinking of buying Windows XP, and for those who are already using the operating system, it might be good to know that Microsoft will support the system with updates until the end of 2009 and also provide necessary updates until as long as 2014.

How to hide a file (or folder) in Windows Explorer

It is possible to hide files and folders in Windows so that they aren't visible in Windows Explorer, even if the option show hidden files and folders are selected. This is an easy way to hide files via the program command window. The procedure is as I said quite simple, start by clicking the Windows Start button on the Windows panel and then select the option Run. In the box that turns up, type the letters "cmd", but without (") in front and after cmd, of course. This will open the command window. Once in command window, look for the folder containing the file you want to hide, such as "C:/Folder". You open the folder by typing "cd C:/Folder", where the CD stands for change directory. An old honest way to navigate through the old DOS filesystem. Again, leave out ("), and write only what is between the characters ("). Once you are at the correct folder, type "attrib filename +s +h", but with the file's name instead of filename. If everything is working correctly, then the file is now hidden in Windows Explorer. It doesn't matter whether Windows is set to show hidden files or not. If you want to get the file visible again, simply redo all the steps above, but type "attrib filename -s -h" instead of +s and +h. Just as before, it is necessary to replace the filename with the file's real name. If you want to know how to hide a entire folder from appearing in Windows Explorer, then you can read about it on this page: ss64.com.
