YouTube: Tibetan revolt in Lhasa

The video site YouTube came to light in the middle of February 2005. Today YouTube is one of the world's most visited sites. Nowdays YouTube is almost a news channel bringing video clips from all over the world. For example there are several clips showing the Iraq war. YouTube plays an important role when it comes to countries with lack of democracy. YouTube may even be the only place where people have the opportunity to speak out. YouTube statistics tool for your site

YouTube recently added a new tool that could be used to collect video clip statistic. The new tool will give users the opportunity to find out which video is the most popular and on what day visitors watched a specific video clip. Users may also have information about visitors geographical location. It will be possible to find out even how the visitors reached the site hosting the video clip. I think this tool will be very useful for site owners who want to suit their site to the visitors behavior. Read YouTube's blog post for further information on YouTube's new tool.

"Finally, we have some answers. Today we're releasing YouTube Insight, a free tool that enables anyone with a YouTube account to view detailed statistics about the videos that they upload to the site. For example, uploaders can see how often their videos are viewed in different geographic regions, as well as how popular they are relative to all videos in that market over a given period of time."

Things are happening at YouTube. Two weeks ago the video site launched a new application programming interface, API. Even more recently YouTube showed how to get high quality on video clips.

The Iraq war on YouTube

This week it is the 5th anniversary since the outbreak of the Iraq war. When the war began the video site YouTube didn't even exist. Today almost everybody are familiar with the site. There are many video clips that give us a picture of the war. You can for example watch the American first bomb raid against Baghdad. There is also a video clip that shows American soldiers on patrol in Baghdad. Another video clip shows still pictures of the war. A lot of people are negative to the Iraq war. Therefore you also can find antiwar clips on YouTube. USA use YouTube to spread war propaganda. The forces do have a channel at YouTube where the American forces publish their own video clips. A sad clip on YouTube describes the last letter of a soldier to his wife in US. The letter is performed as an opera song. One video clip has been shown about two million times. It is a video clip showing American soldiers during a street fight of Haifa.

Diego Gavinowich loves coding and astronomy. Google saw the potential in the young man and asked him to code a standalone web application of Google Sky. The earlier version of Google Sky was a part of Google Earth program. Gavinowich new version only needs an Internet connection to be run. People around the world can search for planets, listen to podcasts, watch some beautiful Hubble Space Telescope images, or explore historical maps of the sky within any web browser. This will actually turn your web browser into a virtual telescope. Google Sky has tens of thousands of searchable objects and can show the sky in different lights as microwave, ultraviolet, x-ray or infrared. You can also watch famous images from the Hubble Space Telescope and find current positions of the planets. Watch the video below and learn how Google Sky works.

YouTube will be as open as possible

YouTube pronounced that they will make their application programming interface (API) as open as possible. This will give all community members the possibility to customize YouTube videos and use it together with a community page or even with personal websites. YouTube also wants to integrate YouTube content into desktop applications, mobile devices, cameras and lots more. YouTube mentioned four new features that will give users the possibility to use YouTube everywhere.

* Upload videos and video responses to YouTube
* Add/Edit user and video metadata (titles, descriptions, ratings, comments, favorites, contacts, etc)
* Fetch localized standard feeds (most viewed, top rated, etc.) for 18 international locales
* Perform custom queries optimized for 18 international locales

YouTube says that this will give users almost endless possibilities to integrate YouTube content into other places on Internet. YouTube also provided some YouTube API Case Studies.
